BIRDS FLY HIGH: WHO'S THE REAL KING OF THE NFL?

by Trevor Caruso

As week 12 of the NFL comes to a close with the Bears visiting the Vikings on MNF, I take a look back on this season as a whole; the highs, the lows, MVPs, and of course, who's the king.

The Eagles had a slow start Sunday vs. the Bills, but they rallied past them overcoming a 4th Quarter, 10-point deficit thanks to clutch play from QB, Jalen Hurts, who took them down the field with seconds to go to set up a 59 yard field goal from Eagles K, Jake Elliot which sent the game into overtime knotted at 31.

The Bills, who have grown notorious for falling short of overtime games, must have believed the tides were about to switch once they won the coin-toss and elected to receive the football.

As the overtime rules have always gone; a TD wins, a FG gives them a chance. With crucial stops by the Eagles defense throughout overtime, the Bills were left with no choice but to kick it. Staring down a 40-yarder, Bills K Tyler Bass drills it to take a 34-31 lead.

The Eagles then got the ball back with a chance to tie with a field goal or win the game with a touchdown. On top of this, a chance to extend their record to 10-1, a very comfortable spot within the NFC. It took 9 plays and 75 yards for Philly, who went down and scored on a game winning run from QB Jalen Hurts, who reached the end zone twice with his legs in the matchup. 37-34 was the final in Philadelphia as they get to 10-1.

The story goes a bit differently for the Buffalo Bills, who are now at 6-6 and will be scratching and clawing to stay over .500 with a brutal gauntlet of @Chiefs and vs. Cowboys for their next two games. A preseason favorite to at least make it to the AFC Championship game is now thinking to themselves if they will even make it to the postseason. As for Josh Allen, his AFC counterpart in Mahomes is proving to be a comparison to forget about, as Mahomes makes a case for MVP week in and week out.

But the real MVP comes down to 3 players in my opinion.

Jalen Hurts

Patrick Mahomes

Lamar Jackson

Time will tell, of course. But, a 10-1 record and a tush push makes Hurts the convincing odds-on favorite to win the award.
